Elon University’s Founders Hall and Innovation Hall are integral components of the new Innovation Quad, bolstering Elon’s STEM programs. Founders Hall, a 20,000 square-foot, two-story building, houses the Engineering Program and features labs for design, prototyping, and virtual reality. Innovation Hall, spanning 45,000 sq. ft. over three stories, supports the Department of Physics and Engineering with spaces for bioinstrumentation, research, and flexible classrooms. Both buildings, which reflect the campus’s classical Georgian style, incorporate modern features like exposed steel and concrete interiors.
The project achieved LEED Gold certification, thanks to sustainable features such as a SmartFlower solar device and efficient landscaping that reduces water use. Despite challenges, including delays in securing power infrastructure, the buildings were completed on time, showcasing the commitment to environmental stewardship and innovative education. These facilities now serve as hubs for interdisciplinary collaboration, fostering a vibrant academic culture and supporting the university’s long-term growth in STEM fields.
