The new multi-purpose Elon University Schar Convocation Center is a state-of-the-art facility designed for both basketball and volleyball. With seating for approximately 5,500, the 165,000 sq. ft. venue offers a premier experience for athletes and spectators alike. Not only does the facility feature a championship main court, it also includes luxury suites & exclusive club seating. Additionally, the Schar Convocation Center offers a Hall of Fame lounge, ideal for smaller gatherings and presentations, along with athletic offices, locker rooms and shower facilities for both men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams. Furthermore, the center is equipped with training rooms and media/communications spaces. Beyond the main arena, the facility also boasts two separate full-size practice courts.

Moreover, the Schar Center aligns with Elon’s “green” initiative by attaining LEED certification, further enhancing its environmental footprint. Project materials were thoughtfully selected to blend with the campus vernacular. Positioned on the north side of campus, the Schar Center complements the nearby football, softball, and baseball facilities, helping to establish a cohesive sports complex for the university.

In addition to providing Civil Engineering services, Stimmel conducted birds-eye conceptual studies, as well as a preliminary pass-through approach video, to assist with visualizing the building’s massing and location from the road.
