Stimmel worked to redefine the recreation program for the 90 Acre site located in a rural setting that is quickly gaining residential density. The comprehensive plan for Ezell Farms Community Park endeavors to achieve a balance of passive & active recreation uses, while acknowledging the agrarian history of the property.
The design team is working with Mecklenburg County to provide an opportunity for a non-profit organization to provide agricultural education programs, farm management occupations, & food production on approximately 10 acres of the property. The project will include maintenance & operations facilities, soil enrichments & composting facilities & a potential open air market building.
Phase 1 will include a basketball court, splash pad, playground, meadow, amphitheater, restrooms, parking & enhancements to the existing community garden, such as more space, a new perimeter fence & a tool shed. The next phase will include pickleball, a welcome center, event lawn, orchard, picnic shelter, natural surface walking trails & additional parking.
