Merschel Park is Winston-Salem’s newest downtown park, opening in April 2023 at the corner of Fourth & Trade Streets. Named in honor of Wanda Merschel, a city council member & downtown revitalization advocate, the park celebrates the contributions of women to the city’s civic life.
This revitalized space offers abundant green areas & incorporates kinetic sculptures reflecting Merschel’s passion for art. The park serves as a hub of greenery & tranquility amidst the city’s urban hustle, offering shaded seating & inviting outdoor dining experiences.
The park includes substantial infrastructure improvements such as sewer line enhancements & storm line repairs. Notably, two art installations, “Balancing Act” & “Ring Around the Rosie,” pay homage to Merschel’s legacy & the importance of women’s roles in the community.
Surrounded by the historic Pepper Building, Hotel Indigo, & Kaleideum Children’s Museum, Merschel Park has redefined Winston-Salem’s urban green spaces.
Stimmel was the lead designer for the landscaping & major infrastructure, including sewer lines & repair of a major storm line within the city. They led the project team to create this serene oasis, fostering community pride & engagement.
