Friends Home Master Plan Expansion
Located at the intersection of Guilford College Road & Friendly Avenue in Greensboro, NC, Friends Homes, a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC), recently underwent significant expansions to both its Guilford & West Campuses. Stimmel played a key role in the expansion, providing Rezoning Services, Land Planning, Site Engineering, & Landscape Architecture Services to bring the vision of this growing community to life.
West Campus Expansion
The $57 million expansion on the West Campus included the addition of 54 villa apartments, 8 two-bedroom townhomes, & 11 three-bedroom cottages. A new 33,000-square-foot Wellness Center & Bistro were also introduced, offering enhanced fitness options, a sports court, & outdoor dining. Stimmel’s site planning & civil engineering expertise ensured that the development respected the campus’s natural beauty & maintained an optimal balance between built structures & green spaces. The new townhomes were designed to foster interaction among residents while preserving the peaceful, nature-oriented atmosphere of the community.
Guilford Campus Expansion
On the Guilford Campus, a $10 million expansion included the addition of 20 one-story townhomes & the realignment of the front entry to improve accessibility & reduce traffic through neighboring areas. Stimmel’s thoughtful design solutions created a more pedestrian-friendly environment, with new sidewalks, planting strips, & enhanced access between the two campuses. This expansion reflects a commitment to integrating the needs of the residents with the existing suburban landscape while supporting long-term growth.
A Commitment to Community & Nature
One of the overarching goals of the expansion was to harmonize the built environment with the natural landscape, maintaining the community’s serene appeal while providing new residential & recreational amenities. As part of the future phases, the campus may benefit from a planned greenway expansion by the City of Greensboro, further connecting the campus to the surrounding community & increasing accessibility.
